what looms. traces the spectral presence of outsider rapper languid looms. as he walks us through his near mythical ghost town.
Drifting between verse and raw, unguarded anecdotes, he unravels his unique past marked by struggle and cognitive distance where victimhood
and anonymity collide, yet he refuses to be defined by either. The film explores the paradoxes of these themes and the strange reasons that lie behind his trademark
haunting image. looms. is a ghost within his own narrative, but most importantly, a ghost of his own making. what looms. untangles this conflicting decision and more;
reflecting on the dualities of his artistic journey whilst inviting contemplation on how we all confront reality.
Inside of this prompt is where all art and meaning linger. Inside of this film’s title, we find both an answer and a question.

Director's note
After shadowing looms. for two years, what began as an exploration of words and poetry evolved into a deeply personal narrative.
Set against the backdrop of a monotonous hometown, the film becomes a meditation on the act of translating
thoughts into verse. Through this process, we gain insight into the artist’s journey. More than just a documentary,
this short film became an unconscious creation of its own—shaping itself beyond intention,
revealing something neither the artist nor the producers could have foreseen.
About looms.
IG / YT
looms., also known as languid looms. (stylised in lowercase with a period) is a British hip-hop artist, singer-songwriter and one half of the cloak-and-dagger
recording duo languid.oceans. His music crosses multiple styles and genres, ranging from alternative hip-hop to lo-fi and outsider folk. Backed
by a line-drawn image of an unexplained face, looms. found unexpected success after drip-feeding a series of intimate and alienating
demos onto Soundcloud in 2015. Without the support of labels, press or official videos, his music organically spread throughout the internet, gaining
millions of independent streams and radio spins before his first official project release. looms. is known to shy away from interviews and social
media (beyond a private Instagram account), refusing to offer the world any images of himself beyond the hand-drawn face. He established
his own imprint, The Lo & Behold Construction Company, in 2023 with the album ‘Saints Are Hard to Live With’, which was sold
exclusively through handwritten letters. looms. continually releases music privately on his website, as well as periodical
chapbooks of poetry by a writer named Andrew Keyman.
